Getting there. 

I visited 'REIS MAGOS FORT' 3 years before in the School excursion in 2020. Our bus left Navelim at 8:30 and we reached by 10 o'clock. The way from Margao to Reis Magos Fort is quite far as Reis Magos Fort is located on the North side of Goa.

While if you are in Panaji then reaching Ries Magos Fort is easy and convenient. The fort is located in the village of Reis Magos, which is nearly 5km away from the capital city of Goa (Panaji). 

If you are travelling by air then the nearest airport will be Dabolim Airport. From the airport, you can take Taxi or Bus, I would not suggest taking Taxi as Taxi Fares are very high in Goa. Buses are way cheaper. From the airport to Reis Magos Fort is around 35km.

If you are Travelling by train the nearest station to Reis Magos Fort will be "Karmali Station" Which is 26Km away from Reis Magos. 


TICKETS AND TIMING.

Reis Magos Fort is open to visitors daily from 9:30 am till sunset (5:30pm). It is open from Tuesday to Sunday, 'Monday' the fort is closed. As per my experience and the information I gathered from others the best time to visit Reis Magos Fort is from October to February. I had visited in month of January 22/01/2020.



As visiting from School excursion we were not charged the Ticket entry fee. Usually for Visitors it's around 50 Rupees per Adult. For children below 8 years it's free. Prices are still the same from 2020 till now (2023). 



All you need to know about Reis Magos Fort. 



One of the must- visit Fort in Goa is Reis Magos Fort located in Reis Magos Village aside of Mandovi River. The entrance of the Fort is a bit Stip, people usually get tired while walking to the gate. It's better to carry a water bottle along with you. We were acknowledged by our Teachers 'Reis Magos Fort is one the Oldest Fort in Goa and one was the first set up by the Portuguese, it was built to protect the mouth of the Mandovi River from Rivals. When we reached the gate there were two persons 'guard and ticket seller of Fort' As you enter the fort you will be surprised by its beauty and appearance. Reis Magos Fort is owned by the Goa Government and you will be surprised to know the fort is 400 years old. Which was constructed in the year 1551. There are many gallery which represents past of Fort combining Hindu and Portuguese styles. The gallery is meant to understand the knowledge of struggle for liberation from the Rule of Portuguese. All around the gallery, you will find historical stories etc. 

There's a Death hole in the fort just above the entrance which was used to shoot / throw hot oil on the enemy who has entered the fort. Which leads to the very painful death of the enemy. 

At the top of the fort there are cannons which were used to defend / attack enemies. There are some restrictions on the top part of the fort. ' Not to sit on walls etc. Cannons have been maintained properly. The exit side of the fort has a round ladder which increases the beauty. In conclusion, the Reis Magos fort is a must visit destination for people interested in Goa's history. The fort has very beautiful View. Whether if you are interested in History Or just looking for a beautiful place to visit. Reis Magos Fort won't disappoint you for sure.
